There will be a screening of 13th, a documentary exploring the intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration by acclaimed director Ava DuVernay, on Sunday, June 11 at 3 p.m. in Bemis Hall. State Sen. Mike Barrett will be on hand to discuss current criminal justice reform legislation in Massachusetts. Clarence Blevins, a reformed ex-felon and advocate for justice reform, will speak about his personal experience of incarceration and adjustment to life after prison. The Fatherhood Project presents “A Celebration of Fatherhood: Strengthening Family Connections” on Friday, June 16 from 6:30–9 p.m. in Bemis Hall—a night of food, drinks, music, and honoring fathers’ impact on everyone’s lives. The guest speaker is Andre Dubus III, author of Townie, The Garden of Last Days, and House of Sand and Fog. The Fatherhood Project is a nonprofit program at Massachusetts General Hospital whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of children and families by empowering fathers to be knowledgeable, active and emotionally engaged with their children.
